Report from the Light & Building Trade Fair

This year’s Light & Building Trade Fair was really a good one. See for yourselves.

The actual presentation of the FLOS premises was impressive on its own, thanks to the design by Vincent van Duysen. A monumental display stand evoked a Romance villa, where the individual rooms spread around the central patio. These imaginary rooms represented a stage for Flos Architectural products, completed with the internal yard full of green vegetation, where Flos Outdoor products were presented. In this way, a dialogue between the interior and the exterior was established

Flos Architectural introduced numerous interesting products. Some of them are already known to the professionals as prototypes, and their final versions were introduced now. The application FLOS Smart Control® can serve as an example, allowing for remote control of the iconic Tracking Magnet or Infra-structure from a tablet or a cell phone. Therefore, each light may be controlled separately, which was not possible in the past. The novelties in the Flos Architectural section were dominated by the Diversion system by Piero Lissoni. It is a very subtle profile with an uninterrupted light line completed with the Atom family of spots. A very interesting jointed coupling is certainly worth mentioning, allowing for a great variety during the design as well as the realization.

In the Outdoor section, your attention could have been attracted by Bellhop by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby and Landlord by Piero Lissoni. A new version of the iconic Belvedere by Antonio Citterio was also introduced, and a family of lights Casting by Vincent Van Duysen gave the finishing touch to the atmosphere.

The reaction of the visitors in the Flos exhibition stand made it clear that they were impressed by the stand and by the products, and many of those, when asked, identified our presentation as the most beautiful at Light & Building without hesitation. That was naturally very pleasing. However, excuse me for a little complaint to conclude with. Frankfurt or Milan, or else, Light & Building, will always be left in the shadow of Salone di Mobile in the eyes of architects as well as of the amateur public, which is a shame. Flos Architectural and Flos Outdoor have their rightful place next to the leaders in their field!
